    <summary type="html">The Public Library of Science (PLoS) publishes biomedical magazines, and all the content is under a non-restrictive CC attribution license--including the art. Photos, science illustrations, and fine art. The search feature isn't very strong yet, but there are hundreds and hundreds of images available there. Go to www.plos.org and click through to the journals.</summary>

Public domain and free CC (but not non commercial) licensed media: movies, photos, sound files, texts are all allowed. Emphasis seems to be on images and sound files now, but it is fairly new.&#xD;

Many are semi/professional photgraphers who like to use it as a sort of repository. Most of our users adopt a CC license, which we offer on sign up, and so much of the site is open for licensing.</summary>

But you touched a nerve with this question.  I have already taken it upon myself (and looking for more help) to do this among other CC related hosting projects.  Very very early planning stages, essentially a domain, sourceforge project, and have some initial ideas/goals outlined.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">The problem with both of those is that the licensing is site wide, not per image. Neither seems to be a clearing house for small time photographers to release their images to a wider base, either. Both are things I was thinking would be needed.</summary>

    <summary type="html">Yes.  Those seem to be more along the lines of a "collection" released under one license umbrella.  but CC has so many license options, and there are others that are applicable but not CC.&#xD;
&#xD;
Personally part of my motivation was the desire to add truely useful features such as median/average/highlight color value indexing, more detail about resolutions avail etc.  Stuff people who use stock photography in the print world REALLy care about.&#xD;
&#xD;
But alas it's only the tip of the content iceberg.&#xD;
&#xD;
